Presidents Message
     by Nancy Newell, SPHR

Happy Autumn!

It's such a beautiful time of year here in New Mexico! Green chile
is roasting, and soon balloons will be flying here in Albuquerque.
The crisp nights and warm sunny days are a constant reminder to me of why I am so lucky to live in such a beautiful place. I hope that you
are all enjoying the wonderful season in your own parts of the state.

Our monthly conference calls continue to be a huge success - they are a great way for all of us to connect with each other, stay up to date
on what's going on, and get input and advice about ongoing projects.
If you are not able to attend the conference call, please send a
designee in your place. We are making decisions and moving on
issues, and I want to make sure that you are up to speed on what is
going on, and that you have had a chance to make input. Your
participation is essential to the success of the State Council! Some
highlights from the last conference call -

* The HR Excellence Awards are moving along. PLEASE make sure that you register and submit your nominations! Our success is determined by your involvement! And your efforts and participation are greatly appreciated. Amy Rehfeld has been helping individuals and companies submit their nominations, to great success. Charlene Scott is working hard on the silent auction, but needs help from all of us to secure bidding items. Mark Sanborn confirmed as our keynote, and we have received pre-certification from HRCI for all of our sessions.  We will be hosting an at-large reception on Sunday evening at the Embassy Suites from 6:30 - 8pm, to which you are all invited.

* Our annual New Mexico Volunteer Leadership Conference will be held on Sunday, October 26th at the Embassy Suites in Albuquerque from 10:30 am - 5pm. Every volunteer leader who will be serving in 2009 is invited and encouraged to attend. Retha Shiplet from Quality New Mexico will be leading our strategic planning session, and we will
focus on how we can better meet the needs of our customers
(members). I am excited about this session, and hope that you will
all be able to attend. Chapter Presidents - please send me your new
board rosters ASAP, so that I can get this information out to the new
leaders. Thank you! The State Council will pay for hotel
accommodations at the Embassy Suites for traveling leaders on Sunday night that are registered to attend the HR Excellence Awards on 10/27.

* The planning for our next state conference is progressing! We are
in the final stages of securing a contract with Sandia Resort and
Casino to host our event in February of 2010. Keep up the great
work, Ed and Melissa!

* The Milliman Survey deadline has been extended until next Monday, 9/29. If you have not yet submitted your data, please do so - it's such a great opportunity for us in New Mexico!!

* I have not yet heard from some of you about your intention to
serve next year. Please let me know by the end of this month if you
are not able to come back next year so that I can get all of the
positions on the council filled.

Thanks again for your dedication and commitment to ATP/STP! I
appreciate all of your efforts, and look forward to seeing all of you
here in Albuquerque in October!

Nancy
